The official trophy launch ceremony for the upcoming Behind Me Media presents Legends & Icons Awards 2026 was held on May 10, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m. Canadian time. Organized by Behind Me Media , the launch marked a significant milestone ahead of the highly anticipated awards gala scheduled to take place on June 20, 2026, in Canada. The ceremony brought together respected professionals from various sectors including healthcare, business, media, technology, and the arts, alongside political figures, social media personalities, and members of the Tamil community.

The launch event focused not only on unveiling the official trophy design, but also on explaining the deeper vision and purpose behind the Legends & Icons Awards 2026. Organizers described the initiative as a platform created to celebrate the excellence, perseverance, and achievements of Tamils across multiple industries and generations. Community members in attendance shared their expectations for the event and expressed support for the effort to recognize individuals whose contributions often go unnoticed despite their impact within society.

During the presentation, Founder of Behind Me Media, Kana Selva, addressed the audience by reflecting on the emotional significance of the month of May for the Tamil community. He welcomed the distinguished guests, media representatives, and supporters who gathered for the occasion and acknowledged the historical weight the month carries for many Tamils around the world. He then introduced the purpose behind the newly unveiled trophy, explaining that many people had questioned why the organization wanted to create something entirely different and innovative for the awards ceremony.

Kana Selva revealed that the trophy had been personally designed after investing considerable time and effort into developing a symbol that reflected the identity and mission of Behind Me Media. He explained that the organization has always prioritized originality and innovation in its projects, and that the trophy was carefully created to represent dignity, achievement, and recognition. According to him, the trophy is more than a ceremonial object because it symbolizes the journey and values of Behind Me Media itself.

Speaking further about the organization’s origins, Kana Selva described himself primarily as a businessman rather than a traditional media personality. However, he explained that he entered the media field because he recognized the importance of documentation and storytelling in preserving history and passing knowledge to future generations. He stressed that Behind Me Media was established as an independent platform free from political or corporate influence, with the intention of becoming a true people’s media organization dedicated to serving the Tamil community. Today, the network reportedly operates with more than 18 team members working across Sri Lanka and India.

The launch also highlighted the growth of Behind Me Media over the past three years. Kana Selva recalled that the organization initially began with only a single staff member before gradually expanding into a larger operation with offices, teams, and international media activities. He noted that the platform’s journey has always been guided by a commitment to uplifting Tamil identity, Tamil voices, and Tamil achievements. He emphasized that despite the historical struggles faced by Tamils, including war, displacement, and economic hardship, there continues to be an extraordinary amount of talent emerging from the community.

One of the most powerful moments of the event came when Kana Selva addressed the issue of celebrity culture and outside influence within award ceremonies. He revealed that there had been suggestions to invite celebrities from India to increase attention for the event. However, he firmly rejected the idea, stating that the Tamil community itself already contains countless individuals deserving of recognition and celebration. He passionately declared that everyone attending the event represented a celebrity in their own right, whether they were doctors, artists, entrepreneurs, lawyers, police officers, or community leaders. According to him, the purpose of the awards is to create a meaningful platform that highlights local Tamil excellence rather than relying on outside star power.

The organizers announced that the Legends & Icons Awards 2026 will feature approximately 80 different award categories. Kana Selva explained that nearly 80 percent of the recipients had been personally researched and selected after extensive effort, while the remaining selections involved consultations with trusted individuals and community members. Although the names of the award winners remain confidential ahead of the ceremony, the categories are expected to honor individuals from a broad range of professions and industries including healthcare, entrepreneurship, law enforcement, military service, media, law, culinary arts, and public service.

According to information published on the official awards website, the Legends & Icons Awards 2026 aims to recognize unsung heroes, pioneers, and icons whose contributions have positively shaped communities both locally and internationally. The event is expected to bring together professionals, creators, innovators, and leaders from around the world in a celebration of achievement, resilience, and cultural pride. The ceremony will feature entertainment performances, award presentations, special recognitions, and networking opportunities for attendees.

Another major focus of the trophy launch was the event’s commitment to social awareness and public health initiatives. Organizers explained that each annual awards ceremony will also address important issues affecting the Tamil community. This year’s focus will center around cancer awareness after discussions with medical professionals identified cancer as one of the most pressing health concerns currently impacting Sri Lankan Tamils. Behind Me Media announced plans to invite oncology specialists from Sri Lanka, including doctors from the Northern and Eastern Provinces, to participate in awareness seminars and discussions connected to the awards program.

Speakers during the event reflected emotionally on how serious illnesses can deeply affect families and future generations. Kana Selva noted that many people often admire doctors for their professional success without fully understanding the sacrifices and emotional burdens they carry every day. The awards ceremony will therefore also serve as a platform to recognize healthcare professionals and encourage broader conversations surrounding community health and awareness.

In addition to honoring individuals, the launch highlighted the operational challenges of running an independent Tamil media network. The organization explained that Behind Me Media has spent the last three years building its platform without depending heavily on government grants or institutional support. Maintaining a growing media organization with full time staff members has required dedication, financial sacrifice, and long term commitment. Despite these challenges, the organization reaffirmed its determination to continue documenting important cultural, social, and national events connected to the Tamil community worldwide.

The event also provided insight into Behind Me Media’s future expansion plans. Following the June 20 awards ceremony, the organization intends to expand further into Hindi and English language platforms in addition to its Tamil media operations. According to Kana Selva, development for both the Hindi and English divisions is already actively underway, with the goal of reaching wider international audiences while continuing to preserve Tamil identity and storytelling.

The Behind Me Media presents Legends & Icons Awards 2026 Trophy Launch ultimately served as far more than a ceremonial unveiling. It became a powerful statement about community recognition, cultural preservation, independent media, and social responsibility. With growing anticipation surrounding the June 20 ceremony, the launch successfully established the Legends & Icons Awards 2026 as an emerging international platform dedicated to celebrating the resilience, excellence, and achievements of Tamils across the world.
