Among the evening's most distinguished honorees was Dr. Sambasivam Somasundaram Guruji, who received the Uthayan Arts and Literary Excellence Award 2026 – Ontario. The Uthayan Arts and Literary Excellence Award 2026 – Quebec was presented to Selvamalar Mathuranayagam. Through her dedication to cultural education and community engagement, she has helped strengthen the connection between young Tamil Canadians and their heritage, ensuring that future generations continue to embrace and celebrate their identity.


One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Uthayan Business Entrepreneur Award 2026 – Ontario to Kana Selva. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding achievement in entrepreneurship, business leadership, innovation, and community impact. Kana Selva's success story is a reflection of the determination, resilience, and vision that have become hallmarks of many successful Tamil entrepreneurs. Through his leadership and business accomplishments, he has established himself as a respected figure whose work has contributed to economic growth while creating opportunities for others.


The recognition of Kana Selva carried special significance because entrepreneurship continues to play a critical role in strengthening the Tamil community both economically and socially. Kana Selva's achievements exemplify these qualities. The Uthayan Youth Identity Award – Ontario was presented to Abira Jayakumar, recognizing her accomplishments and leadership among the younger generation. Through her achievements and dedication, Abira Jayakumar has become a positive example for young people, showing that cultural pride and personal success can go hand in hand. The Canada Vanni Association was honored with the Uthayan Leadership Award – Ontario in recognition of its longstanding commitment to community service and development. Over the years, the organization has played an important role in supporting families, preserving cultural traditions, and providing meaningful programs and services that benefit the Tamil community. The award acknowledges the organization's dedication to fostering unity, empowering individuals, and strengthening community bonds throughout Canada.


The Uthayan Arts and Literary Excellence Award 2026 – Europe was presented to Vavuniyoor Uthayan, a writer and accountant based in England. Through his contributions to Tamil literature and intellectual discourse, he has earned recognition as an influential voice within the global Tamil community. His work reflects the enduring importance of storytelling, cultural preservation, and literary excellence, while also demonstrating the international reach and influence of Tamil literature.
